Roger Cummings from our Junior Yearbook
|
Roger Cummings I had an Audio Visual class with Roger and Renata Steele. The three of us did a video to the music "Bad to the Bone". It was "Bad" (in a good way :) so much so that we won the class award for it. Roger was very creative and fun to be around. He made me feel like a special friend and I will always remember his smile and how we always goofed off in class! -V

David (Dave) Cundiff was a personal friend of mine (Keith Maldonado, your webmaster) and was liked by all... He really was a good guy... Unfortunately, Dave took his own life back in 1993. All of his friends truly miss him. His mother has created a website in Dave's memory... It is at http://www.2ndwind.org/donor_program/lois-cundiff.htm

Vanessa Eaton from our Senior Yearbook
|
Vanessa Eaton was one of the Cactus Wren kids. Everyone knew her. She has a place in all of our childhoods. She had two masters (degrees) and a certificate for grief counseling ...and she was funny, smart, pretty and caring.
Vanessa died suddenly of a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs) while she was visiting her in-laws in California. She was married, her husband's name is Benet Press. She did not have any children. She is survived by her parents (Jim and Pam), brother (Grant) and nephew (Jacob).

Steve Moen from our Senior Yearbook
|
Steve Moen was someone who was a friend... We did a LOT of simple things together, whether it was hanging out at the pool (in the old apartment complex) or being ornery teenagers staying out til the wee hours of the morning... Steve was good people! I have a memory of Steve from PE... Poor guy was pitching when we played softball and took a ball in the forehead off a batter's bat (I won't name names)... We all watched him go in an ambulance and return a couple days later to school... OK after what happened...

Ricky Shilts from our Senior Yearbook

Ricky Shilts
There’s now doubt that Rick Shilts was a true friend. Those that knew him well know he was the type of guy that would take the shirt off his back for anyone. He left us young, but when we get together and talk about the crazy times we shared with him, there are so many great stories you’d wonder how he could have done so much before he left us. As I was driving away from his house to move to Italy with the U.S. Air Force he and his fiancée stood on the edge of the driveway and gave me a grand salute – what a joker! We know he’s saving us spots up in heaven! --Michael Starkey
Rick didn’t have just one best friend at Cortez, he had many and I’m glad I was one. Rick perished in a horrific automobile accident over 15 years ago and is missed just as much today if not more. I can’t believe it’s been that long. He left behind his fiancée Ginny whom he loved like no other as did she to him. They enjoyed the outdoors and loved to travel often. There are so many memories to speak of. Anyone who got to know him as I did knows what kind of special personality he had…he just had a way of making you laugh. --Bob Hosler
